Why does Safari lag when I play slot games on my MacBook Pro?

Hi,

I went all out and bought myself a Mac for the first time , ( Just after I bought a new one for my wife and I really liked it ). I have bought a brand new Apple M3 Pro 16 with 18 gb ram and 512gb ssd. ( 12 cores (6 performance and 6 efficiency ) model MRW13H/A , I updated to MacOS Sequoia 15.4.1 .

However sometimes I like to gamble , I don't want to mention names on the sites but it's a general issue all over. ( Its legal Norsk Tipping ) When I start a slot game my safari lags 70-80% of the time. the video playback is hanging and I can't really play on the Mac OS, and I need to go back to my windows laptop.

And that's kinda going in reverse in my opinion . Any tips and tricks would highly be appreciated!.

Cheers.

André

You either have a third party app installed on your computer or an Extension on Safari causing a conflict. To identify problematic apps/processes running on your computer that may be causing the problem, you can post the free EtreCheck report using the Additional Text option when posting. It contains no personal information.

Make sure you are not using any of these types of apps that are all well known to cause problems with your OS:

  • Cleaners
  • AntiVirus
  • Optimizers
  • VPN

I would approach this in 2 ways:

  • Try a different browser. Websites typically optimize their performance for specific browsers. I would not recommend Chrome, but Brave is a good alternative to a Chromium based browser without all the tracking of Chrome. Firefox is another one that is known to be a good alternative.
  • Disable Login Items at  > System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions > Open at Login. This would be just to test performance without them launching. RoboForm is one of them and also a Safari Extension that has crashed 4 times in the last 4 days. That cannot be ignored as a possible problem affecting performance.

Hi ,

Thanks Jim. I will try all web browsers that have a a package to mac os ( and current build in 2025 ). In windows i dont use the edge browser but -> Brave, Vivaldi . Opera. Mullvad , Firefox and sometimes Chrome. are installed .

Thanks so much for the info regarding Roboform, Its kinda strange since i have not gotten e error in Safari when it crashed, ( I have had "snagit" crash and i got a popup informing me that the software crashed and telling me to try again, send to apple or ignore. a few times . that went away when i did a upgrade of the softeware )

Since the upgrade to mac os 15.5 i have removed the Roboform plugin. in Safari.

Will also try the "disable login" that you mention and revert back when it has been done.

Just for testing purposes I have connected my Mac to my screen PHL 439P1 ( 4k , 43" with docking builtin )

Safari has some performance issues in full hd, its a litte better if you are using full screen and not window.

Same with 4k , some sluggish if there is to much gfx going on.

Vivaldi ( Chromium ) I can't see any issues in 4k or 1080p, so my workaround will be just change to Vivaldi on Norsk Tipping , and/or other sites that provides similar services.

If I am using the inbuilt screen on the Mac, Safari is sluggish sometimes. but less then before. Window mode are more sluggish then full mode.

Vivaldi has better performance overall and sometimes with full gfx and a lot of stuff going on the screen it's a little sluggish not much though. and seems for me like the full mode is better then window mode.

Please note that I have not experienced any issues with YouTube or similar websites. They are all good.

Might it be possible with performance issues with the screen when its on "ProMotion and using Apple XDR Display p3-1600nits ) I have not tried any of the other settings due to fact I don't know what they change .

Thanks for all the help so far.
