How to fix Logic Pro note cutting off issue in real time?

Hello!

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. When I use logic, I usually will use my MIDI keyboard to play with headphones on to not disturb my neighbors. After a while of use, maybe 10-15 minutes, my notes will start cutting off after a second of the note playing. I can keep the key on the keyboard held down and nothing will happen. When I let go of the key, the note will ring for a split second, and I will hear the damper go down. Usually to resolve this I have to close logic and reopen it. For some reason, whenever this bug occurs and I try to close Logic, it freezes and I have to force quit it to get it to close. Is there a way to resolve this???

I know its not an issue with my MacBook because it did the same thing on my old MacBook.

For reference I'm using a 16" MacBook Pro M4, 24GB Ram, 512MB storage.

No, it's not connected directly to the computer. I have to use a USB hub because my MacBook doesn't have any USB-A ports. Although, I did try the suggestion of using a better quality cord that I found around my apartment that came with a printer I had purchased, and it seemed to work. I will update if it stops working again. Thank you for all of your help and suggestions!

Which brand and model keyboard are you using? Make sure you're using a Class Compliant USB cable for your connections. Cheap USB cables will cause unstable communications and if it happened on your last computer I would bet on that instead of a bug in Logic. You can get a USB 3.0 Type-C to Type-B Gold Plated from Monoprice on Amazon for $11.

If you still encounter problems after making sure your cable is class compliant.

  1. Try bypassing control surfaces under Logic Pro>Control Surfaces then open Control Surfaces>Setup and see if there are any devices listed. Remove all devices.
  2. Navigate to Settings> MIDI> Reset Messages : Check boxes under external and software instruments settings for these control numbers and settings.
  • 123
  • 121
  • 64
  • 4
  • Aftertouch To Zero
  • Send Used Instrument Settings on Reset.

Restart your computer if that doesn't work with your MIDI Keyboard unplugged.

Plug it back in

3. Go to System Audio/MIDI Setup

Spotlight (CMD+Space) to Audio/MIDI Setup

Open MIDI studio (CMD+2) Click the refresh Arrow beside the Keyboard icon on the MIDI Studio bar.

Double check your IAC Drivers and MIDI Keyboard Settings. Open IAC Drivers - if you have more than one port listed, click the minus button until you only have 1. Check the device is online box. Click apply.
