How to easily markup photos on iPhone 15 Pro Max?

I just wanted to comment on a post I made last year, Feb 4, 2024, on how Markups for photos was ridiculous on the new iPhone 15 Pro Max, when editing a photo. If you wanted to circle something in a photo, the circle was all grayed out, and you had to go through about 15 steps to get it to work properly, like we used to be able to do. I see now, and I'm not sure when, one of the updates on my phone (I'm at 18.5 now) has finally made it much easier!!! I'm ecstatic. I had given up highlighting any photos, but today I wanted to try again, just to see if I could still do it with the advice I had been given back in 2024. And then I saw it! It's great again! Not exactly like it used to be, but much simpler than when the 15 pro max came out! I'm going to try to upload here what it looks like now! YAY! Enough people must've complained about this issue!

Well, it won't let me upload the photo. There's just an option, after choosing a circle, square, or rectangle, that states "No Fill" and voilà! The gray is gone!

If you didn't: Another time, you might want to try clicking the rectangular "image" icon on the right in the toolbar under the "compose window,.That generally lets you upload an image..

If you want to show your appreciation by sending feedback to reach those who work on the software behind-the-scenes at Apple .... you could include a link to this post if you wish. Eg: Feedback - Photos - Apple

That's great! Thanks for pointing this out. I have given up on using Markup on my iPhone and iPad.

Let's try again:

One thing I noticed when trying - I can no longer move the added shape, once I tried to adjust it the colors. I have to position it before changing the size and color.

Re: "Yea, for some reason it states the image is "too large" to upload".

As well as dimensions (mm., cm.)"too large" can also mean file size, (measured in Kb., Mb. etc.) such as full-resolution photos which can take up much storage space. (Eg: Files over 2 Mb. may be too large to upload.)

Generally, images for display online on websites often need to be lower-resolution (less in file size, and /or in quality, as well as in dimensions) files.

In the Apple Communities, I find using screenshots, and reducing their measurements by 50% works for me as they display as the normal size, otherwise they appear huge. (Eg: When I experimented by adding a normal photo here just now, only a small portion of it displayed, completely filling this "compose window", before I deleted it.)

You can use the tools in the Photos app to crop, rotate, flip, straighten, or adjust the size of a photo or video. See: Crop, rotate, flip, or straighten photos and videos on iPhone - Apple Support

Apologies for not explaining more clearly:

Re: "The rectangular image icon on the right side of the toolbar where?"

The above toolbar is a screenshot of the toolbar you should be seeing.

It is generally under the compose window (eg: in full screen on Mac)

If all you see is a collapsed version : such as click the small circle with the three dots to expand the toolbar

(clicking the symbol before it will reveal other tools)

Hope this helps clarify!

brbo, thanks for your help...however, I don't understand your instructions to upload a photo here. The rectangular image icon on the right side of the toolbar where? On the page here? Where is the "compose window"? It'd be great to figure this out completely for any future posts I make, that I'd like to upload a photo? Thank you for your advice brbo!!!
