Help with 180 VR Stereoscopic Titles in Final Cut Pro (Converted to 360 Over/Under)

Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a 180º stereoscopic VR project. Since Final Cut Pro doesn’t support native 180º editing, I converted the footage to 360º over/under format to continue editing.

I need to add titles at various positions across multiple scenes. To preview the result, I attempted to use the 360 viewer in Final Cut with a Meta Quest 3 headset via SteamVR—but it doesn’t seem to be compatible, as I’ve confirmed through online research.

As a workaround, I tried using anaglyph (red/blue) 3D glasses with the 360 viewer. While this works reasonably well for the video itself, evaluating the 3D placement of titles—especially near the edges of the image—is much harder. I’ve experimented with different convergence settings (low, medium, high—both positive and negative), but haven’t found a comfortable combination.

The only setup that seems to work somewhat reliably is placing the text at the center of the frame, where the 3D parallax effect is more stable and easier to judge.

If anyone has experience with this kind of workflow or suggestions on how to preview stereoscopic 180/360 titles more accurately in Final Cut—or any tools that might help—I’d greatly appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance,

Pablo
