Is the Apple Watch Ultra 2 any different from Apple Watch Series 9?
Is the watch iOS for ultra 2 different from the watch 9? I.E., will the watch 9 do the same things the ultra 2 does, or no?

On a software standpoint, they both run the same WatchOS 11.
On a hardware standpoint, the Ultra 2 has more capabilities. Including but not limited to better battery life, brighter display, larger screen, deeper diving level, and more.

Biggest difference for me is the case. Despite having owned and worn an Apple SE watch for three years I had a SEVERE nickel reaction to the 9 I purchased a year ago. Nickel content made it impossible for me to wear. I replaced the 9 with the titanium Ultra 2 and have worn it almost 24/7 for the past ten months with no issues.
The music over Apple Watch speakers is available on the Series 10. I suspect it is a watchOS change, and not something hardware related.
Otherwise, if the software feature does not depend on specific hardware, then the feature most likely exists on other Apple Watches. But if a feature needs specific hardware, then it is limited to the Apple Watch's that have that hardware.

Thank you - I was trying to determine if (for example), one had more features included in the Fitness App...but if they both run on the same iOS, then it means I have the same functions on the watch I already have.

The Fitness app should share the same features on both Watches. You're welcome and take care.
I upgraded from the Series 5 to the Ultra 2, and also considered to buy the Series 10 instead.
But, besides the far superior battery life, the Ultra 2 is more suited for water activities, longer workouts, can show you the water temperature, can play music over the external speaker, plus has the siren feature.
So I bought the Ultra 2 and I've been enjoying it every day so far.
Agreed. I purchased the Ultra 2 a few months ago and love it ever since, especially the phenomenal battery life.
