Custom Artwork Won't Go Away – How to Reset to Original Album Art?

Hi everyone,

I recently selected my entire music library and applied a custom artwork to all songs at once. However, now I regret doing that — even when I try to delete the custom artwork, it keeps coming back. It's like iTunes/Music keeps reapplying the same image automatically.

I've tried manually removing the artwork from songs, but it just updates again with that same custom image.

Is there any way to completely reset all songs to their original album artwork (the one fetched from Apple servers or embedded in the files)? I'm looking for a way to fully remove the custom artwork so everything goes back to default.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey again,

I’m still trying to fix this and haven’t had any luck. Every time I try to delete the custom artwork and re-sync, the same image keeps coming back, it seems permanently linked to my songs. Even after manually removing the image and syncing again, iTunes (or the Music app) just reapplies it.

It’s like my custom artwork is somehow cached or stored on Apple’s servers and being pushed back to my songs automatically.

This is a music collection I’ve been building for nearly 20 years, so I really want to restore the original artwork for each song, not a single generic image on everything.

Is there any way to force iTunes/Music to unlink or forget the custom artwork completely? Maybe clear some hidden metadata or reset it back to the original from Apple’s servers or the file itself?

I’d really appreciate any advice. This is driving me crazy. Thanks again to anyone who can help!
