Search in Notes stopped working on MacBook Air after macOS Sequoia 15.5

I am on Mac OS Sequoia 15.5. I can't tell exactly if this started with 15.5 update but I have a strong feeling that it did.

While notes results appear in Spotlight search results, search inside the Notes app does not work - it does not return anything.

I tried disabling and enabling iCloud sync. All notes were redownloaded but it didn't help.

I tried "sudo mdutil -Eia off" but it gave me this error: "Error: unexpected indexing state (a)".

Then I tried reindexing Spotlight, by adding and removing Macintosh HD to Search Privacy. I let reindexing to be completed. But nothing changed. Notes results appear in search results but search inside Notes doesn't work.

Any advice?

I had the similar issue on mac mini Intel, Sequoia 15.5. I forced notes reindexing by creating a local account, moving all notes to the local account, then by moving everything back to the iCloud account.

Now searching seems to work in the notes app, and in the spotlight as well.

This solution is somewhat risky, as at some point of the process all notes are deleted from iCloud. So I did it by portions and it worked for me.
