iMovie 10.2.5, OS 11.17.10
Despite selecting one clip above another, no button appears, as you can see in the screenshot below. I have searched this forum and elsewhere online for help and I've restarted the computer and I have deleted preferences and neither action helped. Thanks in advance.

The clip that you want to overlay must be placed above another video clip. Your screen shot shows the clips placed above an audio clip. That won't make the overlay icon appear. One cannot overlay over an audio clip.

You need to select the upper clip (click on it so it is outlined with a yellow box) in order for the overlay icon to appear.

I included a screenshot to show that I've done this and it's still not showing up. Ideas? Thanks!
To make the overlay icon appear you must place a selected clip above a video clip. Your screen shot shows clips placed above audio clips.
