Numbered headings in Pages?

Is there any way to number my headings in Pages?

This seems to have been a missing feature for over 10 years, I can't believe. I hope I just miss how to do it or else that Apple finally makes Pages useful for documents larger than 2 pages...

I'd like it to be like this:

1 Heading

Lorem ipsum

1.1 Heading

Dolor sit amet

1.1.1 heading

merol muspi

2 Heading

rolled tis tema

(and at my choice to have a dot after the number, i.e. "1" or "1.". Currently there is always a dot after the (manually added) numbered lists, it seems)

and so on....

Is there any way to achieve this?

Pages is a free product intended for consumers or occasionally prosumers. You have expectations for a professional product feature set that is absent from Pages, nor is it a design goal. Your options:

  1. Use another word processing application that meets your feature set requirements.
  2. Manually enter those structured paragraph numbers before applying the paragraph style. Pages will not automatically do this for you, though the structure will appear in a generated outline with the appropriate styles enabled.
  3. From the Pages application menu, directly send feedback to the Pages product team with a feature request. Don't get your hopes up or expect them to reply.
