For b/w laser, I go with Brother. Historically we've enjoyed great service from Brother lasers and they have always had very good macOS support.

Our current ink-jet multi-function is an Epson EcoTank ET-3850 and I LOVE it. Very economical with ink and zero issues in over two years of service.

I used to buy HP, but having to deal with three different models that had the same issue put me off. Too often they wanted "do maintenance" when you try to print. On some models that takes time. Not the thing for grabbing a quick copy before popping off to a meeting.

We buy printers with ethernet ports and hardwire them to our home network. Very fast printing and our iPads and iPhone have not problem accessing them.

Go to the major manufacturers, Canon, Brother, Epson and HP and see which of their multifunction units meets your printing and scanning requirements, i.e. print speed, scan resolution, transparency capability and ink cartridge costs. When you've chosen the best for your requirements and budget make sure it's listed in this Apple document: About AirPrint - Apple Support. That way you'll never have to worry about drivers when system changes.

Some things to consider: if you plan on printing a lot consider the cost of ink replacement cartridges. The Epson has an EcoTank unit that is economical from an ink replacement standpoint.
