Installing external Effect Presets in Final Cut Pro

I've spent a couple hours to figuring out how to install Preset pack to FCP. I've used a few options from the forum here and YouTube videos and it still doesn't work. I've put them to the proper folders and add .localized the folders but still nothing when I open FCP.

What am I doing wrong here?

As Fox correctly pointed out, these are NOT effects presets, they are LUT files.

They should probably go into

~/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Custom LUTs

Note: if you have a lot of these, you can create subfolders inside the folder above to get them easily organized. They will be selectable in the Inspector when you added the Custom LUT effect to a clip.

Effects Presets *cannot* work without the original effect installed. All Effects Presets do is save your choices for parameters of a specific effect.

Effects Presets have the file extension: '.effectsPreset'.

What your screenshot is showing is .CUBE files (LUTs??). Those might need to be installed with the Custom LUT effect from Final Cut, but I personally am not familiar with that process. At any rate, there is a 'Custom LUTs' folder in the ProApps folder (parallel to Effects Presets). BTW, neither folder (in my installation) is .localized.

Wait for somebody else to chime in for installing LUTs...

Two things:

1) You are using the overall Library. This should work, but you are the only user of FCP in this machine, I'd suggest you place those files in your own Library (~/Library/.... instead of /Library/...)

You can reach it in Finder by holding Option and choosing Go->Library

or use Command-Shift-G and type ~/Library

2) Camera LUTs and Custom LUTs are not the same thing.

I think that what you have are Custom LUTs, but I'm not sure.

These are added using the Custom LUT effect

3) It could well be that some of these files are not properly formatted.

Where did you get them from? Are they paid, or free? A cube file is a text file with a specific content. You may open it in TextEdit and have a look. Don't change anything.

What do you see in the first lines?

There could be some comments (lines starting with #)

A title,

TITLE ...

A line indicating the size

and a (possibly very long) set of lines with numbers - that is the actual lookup table
