Why can't I receive Apple verification codes on my trusted phone number?

I suspect Apple are using an old "trusted" phone number, even though MY "trusted" number is saved in my data. They say they are sending codes, but they do not arrive, and if I request to use SMS, those codes never arrive either. I think they are using my dear departed wife's phone number, as they show last two figures "60", which could be the end of my wife's iPhone "1660". I am just going round in ever decreasing circles!!

Check family share settings through the Safari browser. Or possibly Could be useful to check the message settings (toggle iMessage and FaceTime). Another possibility could be accidental cross over within alternative message apps (like Whats App)? My opinion would be to start with family share settings.

There have been NO Family Share arrangements, and NO unusual Message Settings. The family have only been using Whats App this year. The correct iPhone number gets me into this community, followed by Password, no problem. I feel sure Apple has a LEGACY TRUSTED NUMBER. Just checked my Apple Account and the CORRECT Phone Number is the only Number in Data, and ends in "21", and NOT'60' (legacy).
