How can I regain access to my iPhone after it was locked in Lost Mode?

Such a problem: I logged into someone else's Apple id, after which the owner of this id put the iPhone in the missing mode (ran into scammers, now they require money to disable the missing mode and give the opportunity to exit this Apple id). How do I get access to my phone back?

If you

  • are the original purchaser of the iPhone
  • have proof of purchase from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller that clearly shows your name and the phone's serial number

you can file an Activation Lock support request. (I don't know if the regular link would work or if you'd need to get in touch with Apple some other way, so they would understand that you are not just talking about a forgotten Apple ID password, but about a scammer's Apple ID being associated with the phone.)

Otherwise, you're hosed.

Paying the scammers would not be a good idea. You would be rewarding criminal activity – and there would be no guarantee that the scammers would not simply take your money, then either (a) try to extort even more out of you, or (b) leave you with a bricked phone.

Servant of Cats provided the 100% correct, only solution available to you. If you don't have the original purchase receipt, which shows your name and serial number on it, Apple won't help you and you've been scammed, with no recourse except to purchase a new iPhone.

Don't pay the scammer. Apply whatever they wanted and put it towards a new phone. If you know how scammed you, report them to the police.
