Just got a 2007 Infiniti M35 and can't connect with CarPlay

Hello.

I am able to connect via BlueTooth, and I can receive calls through the system. If I want to make a call, I tell Siri "call whoever" and it will go through the system, but I can't get it to load my contacts or play my downloaded music through the system. I am able to receive calls and texts through the system, but I haven't attempted to reply to a text. Siri does read them to me if they're short.

I do have the owner's manual for the car. It says:

"Up to 40 phone numbers can be stored in

the phonebook.

"Select the “None (Add New)” key from

the name list of the phonebook, and

push the ENTER“ button.

"Select the “Bluetooth” key, and push

the ENTER“ button in order to

register your cellular phone memory in

the phonebook

"Operate the cellular phone to send a

person’s name and phone number

from the memory of the cellular

phone. The memory sending proce-

dure from the cellular phone varies ac-

cording to each cellular phone manu-

facturer. See the cellular phone Own-

er’s Manual for more details"

On my iPhone SE 3rd Generation, I go to the contact I want to send—all of my contacts are in iCloud—and it doesn't have an option to "send" it either via BlueTooth or CarPlay. I *do* have CarPlay turned on, but it just spins and never displays the Infiniti. Again, BlueTooth has connected to the car.

I go to Settings > Bluetooth and "My-Car" is listed, but it's always showing "Not Connected" even though when I get in the car and start it, the system display shows that my phone has connected and if I receive a text, the system tells me I received the text and will read it if it's not too long.

I concidered doing a restore on my phone, but the computer I connect it to is having issues—it's old and wants to stop and think about things for so long that everything timed out. So, I didn't try again.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me. After I get the contacts in the car, I'll tackle having my music and audiobooks going through the system.

Mathis...

Oh, just remembered, when I set it up under Settings>Bluetooth on my iPhone, at first I chose "Car Stereo" and it didn't work, so I changed it to "Speaker." I didn't try Headphone or Hearing Aid.

Sadly, not one for my 2011 Saab 9-5 vehicles either… 🧐

What I did was purchase a USB-C to 3.5 mm stereo jack from Amazon and can play Apple Music from my M4 iPad Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max into the vehicle AUX port. Certainly not CarPlay but better than just bluetooth pairing the phone for voice activated calling.

I have a Bluetooth FM Transmitter that I acquired from where I got my 2010 Toyota Corolla Sport (I worked for the dealership and someone left it in a car that we repo'd and they didn't come back for it, so the Salesman gave it to me) that I can use, I just hoped I could use CarPlay instead because it's so clunky. I couldn't use it to talk because I had to plug it in inside the console in the Corolla, and no one could hear me due to the location of the microphone. With the Infiniti, it will be next to the gearshift, so it might work. I guess if I do connect it, it'll take over the calls and text announcements as well.
