macOS Mail problems with AOL.

System Configuration:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

macOS Monterey

Version 12.7.6 (21H1320)

Email Problems:

Using macOS Mail client with AOL (not really my choice).  I have a feeling that there is a glitch between my Mail client and the AOL Server.  (There is no problem if I use AOL Email.)

Most times, after opening and closing the first email using Mail, opening a second email displays the preview, but opening the body of the email shows a blank page with no text.  See examples below.

- Mail Preview:

- Mail Email Body (blank page with no text):

However, the email text is available on AOL.

Closing and reopening Mail will solve this problem, but, then closing an email and opening another email, will then manifest the same problem again.

If I look at an email using AOL and then use Mail to try and print the email, I get a message that says:

which, of course, never stops “generating”.  Closing and reopening will temporarily fix this problem.

Sometimes, a deleted email in Mail will bounce back saying it can’t be moved.

I also get a fair number of  “Cannot Send Using AOL Server” messages.

Mail’s “Get Mail” function is often very slow.

Now occasionally, the AOL Email webpage freezes.  I have to refresh the page to get it working again.

Well, here’s a wealth of symptoms.  Any suggestions?

Thank you for your reply.

Re: "Would you recommend starting with a "clean start-up"?"

** no expert on this, so it's not something I generally recommend. You may know more about that than I do. Seems to me the system can usually keep everything Apple "clean" with a simple "Restart". (Apple menu > Restart)

Of course, any third-party apps you find necessary should be kept updated to the most recent compatible version. (Older versions can become incompatible and cause issues. Software that always runs in the background can slow things.)

If you do need to chase up stray files from multiple third-party apps, downloading and running the free version of "Etrecheck" (developed by a respected member of the Apple Community) can be helpful. The app can generate a useful report file that can be shared in a reply here ... some members of the community here are adept at interpreting the finer details.

Re: macOS Mail problems with AOL.

Thank you for your post to the community.

Wondering if you have installed any unnecessary third-party (non-Apple) apps like ad-blockers, virus checkers, cleaners, and the like (even VPN) as they can often cause troublesome issues.

If installed, try turning them off, or better yet, use the uninstallers from their developers.
