Why won't my old iMac support the transfer/reset function?

Have a 2017 iMAC with the latest OS system- successfully transferred all data to my new iMAC. Now want to wipe clean the old MAC so I can donate it.

Followed all the directions on how to accomplish that task however the old MAC is telling me it doe not support the Transfer or Reset function. Now what?

Thanks in advance

If you are referring to Erase All Content and Settings, that requires a Mac with a T2 security chip, or a Mac with an Apple Silicon processor.

On those Macs, the T2 chip or Apple Silicon chip encrypts and decrypts the contents of the internal SSD in real time. The computer can "erase" the SSD by making the T2 chip or Apple Silicon chip forget current encryption & decryption keys in favor of new ones – effectively making all of the existing data so much unreadable hash.

The 2017 iMac does not have either type of chip, and does not encrypt and decrypt the contents of its disk in real time. So doing that type of "erase" isn't possible.
