Is the behavior of the "Find" command, (⌘-F), in the Finder.app where "Name" is Different than "Filename" a new behavior?

I just realized that searching "Name" is different than searching "Filename". In the MacOS "Finder". Is this new behavior? I am just noticing this. When I search for ICS files using Kind - Other - ICS, it returns not file names but the actual event name in the ICS file. If I search the "Filename " - "ending" with ".ics" it returns the same files but shows File Names instead of event names. I don't have a problem here, I am just shocked I am only seeing this for the first time. Essentially when searching for ics files, a search for "Name" in the finder searches event names.

For the time being I changed the default to show filename instead of name. In the aftermarket app called "Find Any File" Name always refers to the file name. To search for something in the contents I would need to search "Text content". No real issue, just something else to get used to. But, I am curious, when did the name column in a finder window stop always referring to the file name??

AFAIK, Name varies by the given name of whatever the item within the Spotlight metadata.

Use the command-line mdls command to review the Spotlight metadata for the files of interest, and man mdls (and other resources) (and oddities) for some related details.

mdls /path/to/file
man mdls

It’s also the results column that changes definition. If you search for “filename” the Name column shows the filename, if you search for “Name” the name column shows event name with ICS files anyway. I wonder if you have a search with “filename” and “name” what the definition of the first “name” column would be. I’ll have to try that. They should change the name of the first column to be consistent.

Alas, changing stuff — names — tends to break other stuff — existing stuff dependent on the existing nomenclature.
