Can't create new email in Mail app from external apps anymore

I have a handful of other applications that trigger mail.app to start a new outgoing email message. None of them work now. Launchbar & SuperDuper are two that I remember.

It's not able to do that anymore, and I think the culprit is the app itself. Notes can highlight an email and I can click it for a new email message, but it doesn't work for others.

Can I fix this somehow? Any insight appreciated.
