Photos does not import .ARW Raw files from the camera Sony RX100M7A

Dear All, I bought a new Sony RX1007A. It is a professional tool: I need to use raw files and jpeg. Unfortunately mac/photos does not recognise the file format. Any tip or solution? I run a mac under 15.5 (24F74).

Thanks.

I fear that this may give the appearance of opening a file and showing a picture without making all the full RAW information available.  There's evidence that Adobe's free Digital Negative (DNG) converter, while it makes a universally acceptable RAW picture file, loses information for some formats.

Then again, if you can't tell the difference, then it doesn't matter. I can't see that, if you're using Photos for editing, that you get much advantage from RAW files, anyway.

Seems like this camera was only just released in May 2025. That is months before Apple will provide support for the camera (if ever). I cannot find any site that has reviewed it yet, or offers sample ARW raw files specific to this updated camera model.

In Sequoia v15.4.1 and now v15.5, Apple only supports the Sony DSC RX100 VII model. The M7A may provide a different ARW format. Whether Sony will provide Apple with the supporting data for the RX100 M7A camera, or when it will be implemented in a future operating system is unknown.

Adobe added support for the M7A in the May release (17.3.1) of their Adobe's Digital Negative Converter. That will convert ARW to RAW DNG which is compatible with Finder, Quick Look, Photos, and Preview.

If I recall when I looked inside the camera raw support a few years back, there were specific data shown for each camera model, so unless that has changed, the cameraModelID field may be used to index into a specific camera's data in the RAW support. Thus, a DSC-RX100M7 entry may or may not have the same content as a (potential) future M7A entry in Apple's RAW support. Unknown as this point…
