Total lock-out from iCloud services due to 'old' MacBook Pro

I totally understand the need to upgrade hardware, in order to be able to keep on evolving with the the operating system.

After ten years, my MacBook Pro is on Monterey and won't update anymore. That's fine. Again, I understand.

However(!) : why on earth am I being locked out from all the iCloud functions as well? I am not allowed to logon, even. No more Apple TV+, no more Apple Store (still plenty of apps that do run on Monterey), no more nothing.

I am being 'shunned' by Apple, because I have a perfectly working MacBook Pro, but on Monterey.

So, is Apple totally CRIPPLING the functionality of my system? Not even allowed to logon to iCloud anymore?

Seriously? Crippling my system like this?

Even 10 year old PCs - albeit on older software - are still functioning as intended.

Older equipment is blocked here because Advanced Data Protection was enabled, and the older equipment does not have the capability of accessing the iCloud protected data.

Your choices are to cease using the older gear, or disable Advanced Data Protection and revert to the same security that was in use with the older gear.

Not sure that I follow. Yes, your device is considered obsolete but the software installed will still work. Are you saying that you cannot log into iCloud.com? or tv.apple.com? Or, something else? You should be able to log into your iCloud account in settings (and, presumably, you never logged out as there is no reason to do so). What is the exact message that you receive? When? I have an even older device on an older OS that is still logged into iCloud. What is the year/model and the MacOS (you can find. that under the apple menu > about this Mac)?

Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, the information Apple is providing, is not completely true.

That’s the reason why I wrote this message in the first place.

Apple does not allow logging into my iCloud account. It tells me that the OS is too old and can’t be updated.

The result: Locked out of the AppStore, FaceTime, AppleTV, you name it. I even have a ‘plus’ sub, but Apple doesn’t seem to care.

So having a system that is being regarded as ‘too old’, renders it pretty useless.

Something to consider, IF(!) I ever choose to buy Apple systems.

Again, many thanks for the extra information. But Apple is apparently not completely transparent about it.
