How do I fix my new Apple Pencil Pro not working with my iPad Air M3?

Honestly, this has been a pathetic issue from day 1. The Pencil Pro seems to hate to connect when it is fully charged. I can use it, attach to the iPad and come back later and it doesn't work. When reconnecting it gives the pencil 100% charged mini message but refuses to work. Sometimes forgetting the device works, other times it won't even reconnect. I have tried all the fixes to be found online but the issue still remains. It seems to be the worst designed hardware or software for brand new devices.

The Pencil Pro is a complete and utter waste of money for me apparently and seems to be an issue for many others. Everything is up to date but the issue remains.

Is there a fix coming from Apple for this is is this just the magical experience that I am getting?

Given your description, either your Pencil or iPad has a fault.


You would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad and Pencil. If a fault is identified, you’ll be in the best possible place to explore your available options:

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your Pencil Pro and iPad. It sounds frustrating, but I'm not aware of any specific fix coming from Apple at the moment. Have you reached out to Apple Support for assistance with this issue?

I have recently purchased iPad Air M3 256GB and Apple Pencil Pro and I have been experiencing issues with it too. It is how I found these forums and is why I bothered to register, after hours of troubleshooting “turning on and off again” disconnecting Bluetooth etc. Nothing seems to get the iPad AirM3 to recognize and add the pencil Pro to Find My. It is the main selling point of the Pro pencil- ability to add it to “Find My” is listed as an unique feature/advantage compared to other pen versions, and IT DOES NOT WORK at all! Disappointed but not surprised… Now I’ll to return it to Amazon - a 130 eur I spent on a feature that seems to not work since 2024 for many people is still (a year passed and still no fix, cmon, must be faulty engineering, and now to spend more time and money on shipping it back to Germany… What a waste of time and money. Come to think of it I bought the Air version because it supposedly supports Pro pencil - now I don’t need either. Might as well just do with regular iPad.
