Why won't iTunes move files when library is "moved"?

The move out of Catalina moved again my files from the root of the filesystem [/Music] to deep within it[/Users/Shared/Previously Relocated Items/Security/Music]. Twice.

I'm trying to move them at least back to a place where Apple kindly gives me permission of putting data in on my own system and be grateful. Praise Apple.

I launched iTunes' worsealike, the generically named one, I organized and consolidated the library before going any further.

The went to the app's settings to change the directory, as expected; it asked me if I wanted to moved the files to match what I just did, I accepted and waited. It took less than I took contemplating about all the features useless on this new shiny macOS without an iCloud account, as it turned out. Anyway…

When it was done, no files were moved at all. They still played. I quit it, and I launched it again. The change was still in place in its settings, and the files still played, even though there were not where they were supposed to. I "returned" them to the original location, just in case. And tried again: same results.

I have used iTunes for so long, this always has worked before; even between network locations. Why doesn't it anymore. Apple is really focused on alienating everybody, isn't it? I tried a third time, this time I taped it:

  • The bottom Finder window contains the source location of the files [/Users/Shared/Previously Relocated Items/Security/Music]
  • The upper Finder window the destination for the move. Files were already consolidated and organized before moving. [/Users/Shared/Music]
  • The foremost window contains the mess that replaced iTunes.

After the move the organize option disappears becomes unavailable, leaving only the consolidate option. But I don't want — probably can't — copy. I don't believe I have the space, if it fails I could remove the copied files from the disk I suppose, if that were so easy, iTunes has always sucked to remove duplicates. I shows them but has no tools to get rid of them in batches easily. It does excel at creating unnecessary copies though.

I theory APFS should make the duplicate files not an issue, but again, that's not what I've seen happen. Any idea what can I do?
