Is nobody streaming at 24bit 192khz???

Hi Edward, Since nobody else posted, I will chime in again. :-) The answer seems to be not "nobody," but "hardly anybody." I checked several sites that offer streaming and/or downloads in hi-res. They all make the identical claim of "up to 192," but in poking around there are extremely few albums at 192. Apparently the labels simply don't make them available.

One of them, eclassical.com, even has an argument that 192 doesn't matter, and that the big bang is using 24 bit sample size instead of 16:

Higher sample rates can preserve more of the natural overtones in a recording, especially with acoustic instruments and ambient space. But the biggest audible difference often comes from moving to 24-bit, not just increasing the sample rate.

Since sample size is more tied to dynamic range, and sample rate is more tied to frequency range, this is quite a plausible argument, although you may of course disagree.

But bottom line, there just isn't much 192 out there.
