.pages extension is AUTO adding despite efforts to remove it

This is a new issue that I had not had previously.

Now when I save files WITHOUT the file extension (such as .pages) it auto adds it anyway.

"Document name" turns into "Document name.pages" every time it saves.

I have turned off "show file extensions" on finder.

I have turned on "hide file extensions" on "get info"

And yet every time it autosaves while I am typing a document in pages, it ADDS .pages back to the file name.

Even when I rename a file using "rename" if I make any additional changes, it saves it with the extension all over again. It DID NOT used to do this.

What setting am I missing? How do I get it to stop doing this?????

Thank you for anyone who can help solve this issue.

Read some of today's posts on this subject before posting a redundant question that has been answered more than once today:

.pages file extension keeps being added e… - Apple Community

In summary:

  • The Finder Advanced settings have nothing to do with disabling the extension.
  • The last several releases (years if I may be so bold) of Pages applications have forced the .pages file extension, and you cannot alter that as it is designed into the application code.
  • If you use the Finder Get Info panel to hide an existing Pages document extension, upon editing that document, Pages will honor its previously hidden extension status.
