Ok, then you will want to follow the steps here to unlock the app so Face ID is not required.

1. Go to the Home Screen.
2. Locate the app you want to unlock.
3. Touch and hold the app icon until the quick actions menu opens.
4. Tap Don’t Require Face ID (or Touch ID or Passcode), then authenticate using Face ID (or Touch ID or a passcode).

When changing Face ID in settings for the Pages app, it only changes that behavior when creating new documents. Any previous document that is password protected can be shut off by going to Document Options in the Pages app.
