Learning about iMovie and trying to use conversions of 8mm films

Hello Apple Community,

10+ years ago I converted many family movies taken on a couple of video cameras and stored the results on several external hard drives. I have finally committed to getting the project finished and able to share with family. When I open the hard drives I find this:

I'm not sure what to do from here - do I drop the "clip" into iMovie? (The clip plays in QuickTime but the other .mov items do not). Has an iMovie been made? Should I delete the caches? Any advice as to what my next move should be?

Thanks !

The file clip-135-02-05 05;27;15 would appear to be your old movie ... but it's in an iMovie Thumbnails folder, which is puzzling. I would have expected to find a .mov file that has the same name as its parent folder ... and it wouldn't be in the Thumbnails folder.

For example, if you had created an iMovie project back in 2015 called May Day, there should be a folder called May Day containing the entire project's files including a file called May Day.mov, which would be your finished movie. There would also be a folder called Media containing all the original clips used to make the movie.

Is this screenshot of the entire folder for a particular iMovie project, or just a partial list? If partial, please post a screenshot of the entire folder.

Do you recall what version of iMovie you used back then?
