Final Cut Pro error message: Camera clips cannot be processed

I'm trying to import a video file (.mov) on my hard drive into Final Cut Pro. However, when I do there is an alert message " Camera clips cannot be processed. You must import/reimport these first in order to process. When I try to re-import the file there is an alert message " All of the selected clips originated on camera that are not connected and there are no camera archives available. Please connect the cameras and try reimporting." It is impossible to follow these instructions, because the file is not on any camera, but already on the hard drive of my Mac.

Are there any suggestions for how this issue could be resolved?

Mac Studio, macOS 15.4

Alchroma is probably right.

If not, then please tell us where this clip came from. Did you by any chance separate this clip from a camera card folder structure? Some like AVCHD do not work well unless you copy the whole folder structure instead of manually copying the clips.

If the problem persists, you may try reencoding the clip using HandBrake and use the new version.

Thank you! After copying the file in an existing folder structure on a SD card, I was indeed able to import the file in FCP without issue. I only had to adjust the creation date of the file, because it had changed to the date of conversion.

I also managed to import the file after converting it into ProRes. I'm a true beginner and not really familiar with with ProRes, but will do so research.

In any event many thanks for your help!

To be honest I don't remember where the file came from. The rest of the footage from the same day was imported in the FCP library, but this file I found when I was trying to clean up my folders.

In any case, you're right, in addition to using the existing folder structure of a SD as Alchroma suggested, converting the file also solved the problem.

Many thanks for your help!
