I Movie revisiting importing Camcorder footage to iMovie

Wow been t least 20 years since I did this, OK I have a Panasonic PV-GS 12 ( looked on list of supported camcorders and I do not see it ) which from what I read "even though camera is not listed it can still work"

So with that out of the way , I do not see the camera icon on my desktop

Mac Pro 2019

Sonama 14.3

Using I Movie

10.4.3

First thing :

Cables.

I have a miniDVD firewire 800 cable see screenshot , I don't have a firewire to USB so I bought a mini dvd to USB cable and used that and so far I do NOT see the camcorder on the screen.

Could this be the problem?

Should I get a firewire to USB connection cable?

If not then I'm lost , any help here???

Screenshots are

1.camera

2.Mini DVD to FireWire orange cable

3.nwe just bought minded to usb ( I have USB c Connector at the end my Mac Pro )

Mac Pro, macOS 15.3

Wondering if the Camcorder is tape-based or file-based or uses a memory-card:

and

whether or not you have viewed Apple support's articles for tips on ways to import your camcorder footage:

Import into iMovie on Mac from file-based cameras - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"If you’re using a camcorder, set it to PC Connect mode. (The name of this transfer mode may be different on your device.) Your camcorder may automatically go into “connect” mode when you connect it to your Mac. For more information, see the documentation that came with your device." (link below may be the manual ?)

Eg: says:

"You may need to adjust the settings on your camera so that it can be controlled by iMovie."

Memory cards and Cables:

Else, you may be able to transfer the footage from the camcorder to the Mac using either the Photos app or the Image-Capture app. This ensures the original file is stored ready for viewing or for use in projects.

See how you can: Import media into iMovie from your Mac - Apple Support

If you wish: You might try transfering the camCorder footage into your Mac using the Image Capture app.

Maybe the camcorder can be used to: Import from a camera or phone in Photos on Mac - Apple Support

ie: We can select photos and videos that are already in the Photos app for use in iMovie:

See: How to: Add media from your photo library in iMovie on Mac - Apple Support

or

We can use iMovie's browser to locate files stored in whatever folder we chose to transfer them to.

Thx for the reply, I got IMovie 9 to open and it sees my camera ( see screenshot ) as you can also see it says communication error so thats a start. I do not see my camera on the list of supported cameras for I Movie 10 so let me stick to IMovie 9 as I got this far. Meanwhile I'm going to go thru the manual of the camcorder to make surer all the settings are right. This is the original camera and Mac Pro I last used to access the camera footage from .
