Syncing apple wallet membership cards between iPhone and watch

This is essentially informative after being unable to sync (specifically) membership cards between an iPhone 12 and apple watch series 10.

Since the sync did not automatically occur after adding the cards to the iPhone wallet, nor after following the Apple guides for re-syncing between the iPhone and watch…

the following steps inserted the membership cards into the Watch’s wallet:

1) first install the membership cards into the iPhone wallet

2) from the iPhone wallet, select “i” (info) or “pass details” for the card, and from there select “upload”, and select to message the card to the watch’s recipient.

3) on the watch, select the messaging app and open the message including the membership card

4) tap the membership card image in the message

5) choose “add to wallet”

Now the membership card should be in the watch’s wallet!
