Mail will not send email on MacBook Air Sequoia 15.4.1

I can receive mail but cannot send mail on my MacBook Air after a recent OS update. The update introduced changes to Mail, including the new "Categories" view. My MacBook Pro and two iPhones can send mail but not the Air. I have done all the fixes with server settings, rebooting, etc, including AOL's "Fix problems sending AOL Mail" suggestions (https://help.aol.com/articles/aol-mail-troubleshooting) This suggests the problem is with Apple Mail, not AOL. Only once I got the error message cannot send with selected server. I selected the correct outgoing server but it would not send. I accidentally discovered that if I place the curser at the end of the message content (after my signature for instance) and hit return, the message will send. I prefer not to use the accidental fix but will have to until I get this resolved. Also, another incidental: If there are mispelled words in the content, sometimes Mail will prompt for corrections and then send the mail, but not always. I prefer not to delete the online account and reinstall it because it takes hours to rebuild my mailboxes. Am I missing something here? Any suggestions for fixing this annoyance will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your attention.

Hey . . . I spent several hours with AppleCare "top level supervisors" who knew about the problem but had no fix . . . only, wait until the next OS update. They had me erase my hard drive, reinstall the OS and then migrate all my data (6 hours) from a TimeMachine backup. It didn't work. In another thread here I found the very simple solution. In Mail Settings>Composing, uncheck "When I Click Send" and chose instead "As I Type." Fixed! I told my "genius" I fixed it myself and he was nice but defensive. Said he'd pass it "up." OK . . . so much for paying for AppleCare! I hope this works for you.

I have no problem sending mail with my AOL account set up in Apple's Mail app.

I did use Sequoia 15.4 & 15.4.1 without issue. I am currently running 15.5 without issue on MacBook Air

I suggest you start by updating your macOS to the current Sequoia version 15.5. It contains bug fixes and other enhancements. If after applying that update you still have a problem, please come back and let us know.
