Why does Time Machine pause during backups on MacBook Pro?
Whenever I back up my Mac, Time Machine seems to pause mid backup. It will back up the first 50 to 70% fairly quickly, depending on how much needs to be backed up, but then the last 30 to 50% will take 12 to 18 hours. And when I check on it during that time, it'll remain at the same percentage for hours and sometimes overnight. Then when I go to use the computer the next day, it will finish fairly quickly, even though it was still at 30 or 40%.
And I'm not allowing a computer going to go to sleep. I'm setting if not to go to sleep for several hours. But even though it hasn't gone to sleep, the backing up process seems to stall. I'm also normally not using it while it's backing up.
Why would that be? And this is an ongoing problem that's been happening for years through various operating systems upgrades.
Thanks,
Pat
