I'm writing a long essay in Pages that I want to export to EPUB for reading in Books. The essay is in several sections separated by page breaks in Pages. These breaks disappear when I export the document to EPUB. How can I force the retention of these breaks? Looking at other posts on this community, the problem seems to have been around for a decade or more.

Thanks for the prompt response VikingOSX: it was greatly appreciated. Yes, I've seen the two layout options, but it's the reflow able one that I want. The fixed option for an essentially text document (no images or diagrams) seems a waste of time and doesn't give me the reflow that is what really makes an ebook different from other options. The limitations of the Pages > epub export function have been around for a long time and I was hoping that more recent versions had addressed the problem.
However, since first posting here, a friend has referred me to this link Frustration with Pages to ePub page breaks - Apple Community which, although old, might be useful in that it seems to suggest that a solution may be possible using the TOC (table of content) features in Pages. I need now to explore that option.
The EPUB export panel in Pages v14.4 has two layout options: 1) Reflowable or 2) Fixed layout. If both are ignoring your deliberate page breaks in the Pages document, there is likely nothing you can do about how Pages formats EPUB content. You may have received a warning dialog during the Export about certain unsupported formatting.
Otherwise, you can send direct feedback to the Pages product team from the application menu.
How can I keep page breaks while exporting to EPUB from Pages?
