Question mark on MacMini in network folder

Hi,

I have a network tested between two Macs: a late 2013 iMac (Catalina) and a new MacMini M4 (Sequoia), both updated to the latest version. The network works fine from both Macs but from the iMac I always see an annoying question mark instead of the MacMini icon.

On the other hand, from the MacMini I see exactly the reproduction of the iMac.

I repeat, everything works great but it's just an annoying issue. Can this defect be fixed?

I've set it up so that I can share files/folders between all of my Macs (the new M2 Mini, the old 2010 Mini and a MacBook Pro Touch Bar). On the old 2010 Mini, the new M2 shows in the Network section of the Finder with a question mark icon. It shows in the Network section of the MacBook Pro just fine and as expected. When the M2 with the question mark is selected on the old mini, it gives me the option to share screen. When I view the M2 from the network section of my MacBook Pro, not only does the icon show properly as a computer (no question mark), it gives me the option to either "share screen" or "connect as". What do I need to do on the old Mac mini so that the question mark goes away and it behaves the same as it does on my other computer? I hope this makes sense.

File sharing with Mac Studio Problem sharing files with Mac Studio: Other computers on network not logging on the Mac Studio, while Mac Studio could log onto them for file sharing after migrating from Intel iMac Pro to new M2 Mac Studio Ultra. When attempting to connect from an Intel MacBook Pro to an M2 Mac Studio Ultra, this error message displayed when clicking on Network\Mac Studio\Connect: There was a problem connecting to the server "Mac Studio server name" The server may not exist or is unavailable... I found this suggestion on OS10Daily, The article suggests toggling off file sharing, restarting and then turning it back on. This was done and the next logon attempt (by clicking Connect As…) showed the password entry window. I entered the password and got this message, "Access to your account on the server "Mac Studio server name" has been denied. The only variable not previously changed was the Login Items. I removed the only item from the Mac Studio Login Items, and toggled background items on and off leaving a couple off and restarted the Mac Studio. Then, from the MBPro, I clicked on Network\ Mac Studio\Connect and was logged on to the Mac Studio and was connected. I disconnected and repeated this and again was connected The Mac Studio now appeared in Locations in the MacBook Pro's sidebar, as well. Interestingly, even when Mac Studio would not permit a logon, toggling File Sharing on and off, Mac Studio appeared and disappeared from the Network locations list, keyboard and mouse sharing between the Mac Studio and MBPro worked, and dragging files between the two worked, suggesting a permission issue as opposed to a firmware issue. The problem could be partly a firmware problem, given I did reinstall Sonoma (which could have updated the firmware), but it had no effect until the settings were changed as above.. Summary: · Reinstall Sonoma (MacOS 14.0) · Turn off File Sharing, Reboot, turn on file sharing (toggles appearance of Mac Studio in MBPro’s network; logon window appears after clicking connect, but access is denied) · Remove items from Login Items and toggle background items on and off leaving some off and restart Mac Studio. Keep removing background permissions until l connection works. It appears that migration from Intel Macs to Apple silicon Macs may not be trouble free and resolving the conflicts with file sharing can be challenging. [Edited by Moderator]

two macmini m1 on same LAN behaves different when connecting They both run Ventura 13.1 with Danish as system choice. Separately they works perfect and all items/folders are shown in Danish. Connecting Mini A to Mini B on the LAN is fine... BUT connecting Mini B to Mini A it becomes strange because althoug the identical (?) set up, Mini B (when connecting to Mini A) persist to use the 'deafult US' descriptions instead of the Danish ones, but only for these 3 items: 'Desktop' instead of 'Skrivebord' 'Documents' instead of 'Dokumenter' 'Downloads' instead of 'Overførsler' And these three folders are of course empty because they do not really exist! (Only the 3 folders with the Danish description exist, with content). I have checked all the "Obvious" places in system setup but maybe I have a blind spot, since I cannot fix this! Hope someone can guide me to the place where I can fix this weird thing. GfreyT
