My 2017 iMac isn't connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi

Hi everyone

Looks like my Wifi is not working anymore on my 2017 27" iMac. (ventura 13.7.4)

It started not working last week resolved the problem by starting a session in invite mode and it worked when i reverted on my normal User.

Now nothing works; Just got off the phone with Apple support we tried mostly everything

  • There is a ! over the wifi signs at the top of the screen.
  • The activate wifi button does not respond niether the "details" button when I click on it it does not return anything.
  • Boot with 3 different HD 1 internal 2 others (SSD) externals,
  • Boot in safe mode it does not see any Wifi network
  • Boot in recovery mode does not see any wifi networks either.
  • zapped pRam

Anybody has any clue? Can we change the internal wifi adapter on an iMAc? Not sure i want to open the iMac :-(

Otherwise I guess I will need to have an external wifi adapter...My USB / Thunderbold slots are fully taken + a second external adapter (hub)..

Thanks for your help...

AK

Have updated the firmware on you modem and router recently, YES even if all other devices work okay. You need to unplug them from power for 2-3 minutes, then restart. Wait until they are both fully up and running and then restart the iMac in Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support And then restart normally and test.

By the way, if you have ANY of the following types of apps installed those are VERY likely the source of the problem and should be uninstalled ASAP.

  • Antivirus
  • Security
  • Cleaning
  • VPN
  • Maintenance

Also that piece of hardware is not replaceable because it is part of the main logic board. You would need to replace the whole board which is far more valuable (assuming you can get one) than the computer is. Another option if you are correct that its hardware is to get a USB Wi-fi module, that you can plug into a USB port on the computer.
