How do I recover missing Notes after a factory reset on iPhone?

I had to have a factory reset on my iPhone and in the process my Notes did not all transfer to my new settings. Please help.

  • Did you restore from a backup?
  • Are your Notes stored in iCloud?

Notes can either be saved on your device or in iCloud. To see if you are saving notes in iCloud, go to Settings > [name on top] > iCloud > Show All. If Notes is Off then they are being stored on the device. Notes stored on your device would be saved in backup and restoring from that backup should bring those notes back. If they are stored in iCloud, then you should be able to view them here:

View notes and locked notes on iCloud.com - Apple Support

If you see them in iCloud using that link, then on your device sign out of iCloud and sign back in. This will restart syncing of your data and you should then see them in the Notes app after they sync back to your device. Of course you will need a good internet connection for this to happen.
