Why isn’t my iMac recognizing my iPad Air or iPhone?

My 2021 24 iMac is not recognizing new iPad Air M3 or new iPhone. I’m trying to set up WiFi sync but neither device is showing up. All software is updated. Restarted multiple times. New Apple usb-c cable. Box for connection to dvd.. is checked. iPad and iPhone are showing up on my MacBook Pro so it must be the iMac set up. Any advice?

We don't know why the OP is trying to sync their iPad Air and iPhone with their Mac over a USB cable.

iCloud synchronization, or synchronization via shared e-mail accounts, are certainly the preferred methods for most types of data.

However, if you are trying to load music purchased somewhere other than the iTunes Store onto your iPhone or iPad (e.g., music purchased on CD), without an iTunes Match or Apple Music subscription, manual synchronization is the only tool Apple offers to do that.

You can use iCloud and e-mail synchronization for most things, and manual synchronization just for music, movies, and TV shows. (That's how I have things set up.)
