How can I set sounds/alarms for text messages - but only for certain contacts on my iPhone?

Generally, I do not want to hear any sounds when I receive a text. However, there are a few important people/numbers in whose case I would like a sound to announce that a text message has been received. Is there a way to set up an alarm that would ring when a text message is received from just a limited number of telephone numbers or individuals?

Hello!

You could go to: Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Text Tone, then set it to “None.” Then open the Contacts app, tap the contacts you want to get audible text notifications from, then tap “Edit,” top right corner. Then scroll down to Text Tone and choose a text tone for that contact. Do that for all the contacts from whom you want to get an audible text tone when they text you.

You can do the same thing for Ring Tone, if you like.

This is the closest you can come to what you’re trying to do with iOS, as far as I know, without involving third party apps, if such apps exist.

There is another option using Focus, where you can always have a Focus enabled, and then add certain people or apps whose notifications can bypass the Focus. This is actually easier to set up and more practical than the above method.
