How do I fix iTunes sync issues between MacBook and iPhone or iPad?

If I edit a playlist on my iPhone or iPad then sync with my Macbook, the macbook overwrites the playlist on my devices. All devices are running the current versions of the respective OS (e.g. IOS 18.4.1)

Also, is there a way to print a copy of a playlist?

The manual synchronization model – which dates back to the first iPod – is generally one-way: from the computer to the portable device. The computer replaces the entire media library on the portable device with a selection from the computer.

There was at one point an exception for items purchased on the mobile device, which could be synchronized back from it to the computer. But I never played around with playlists enough to determine what the expected behavior would be for playlists modified on the mobile device – whether they would be copied back, or overwritten.
