Ventura disabled brightness adjustment on MBP 2020

I'm constantly asked to upgrade my MBP and then one day I gave in and upgraded to Ventura, which I should not have done. Now, I cannot adjust the brightness of the display anymore and there doens't seem to be any other advice than upgrading to Sequoia. I am reluctant to do that because of many reports of this causing the battery to drain much quicker and who knows what other issues come with that. I don't quite understand why Apple does not fix this problem as so many users have reported it too. Has anybody been able to fix it?

Most likely it is due to an issue with some third party software you have installed. Try booting into Safe Mode to see if that makes a difference.

Also, make sure all of your third party software is completely up to date.

Launch the Terminal app and issue the following command:

sudo nvram -c

You may see it mention that some items could not be cleared such as computer name which is Ok. After doing this, reboot the computer so the system can pull the default values from the NVRAM. This command will prompt you for your admin password. Nothing will appear on the screen as you type the password, just press the "Return" key to submit the password.

If you still have issues, then run the third party app EtreCheck and post the complete report here so we can examine it for possible clues.
