How can I delete downloaded spoken content voices on Mac?

I tried Spoken Content and downloaded some voices. I want to delete unnecessary voices.

There are lists of voices you can download in :

System Settings -> Accessibility -> Spoken Content -> click i with circle at the end of 'System voice' -> click '>' at the end of 'Voice'

There was no 'Edit' or minus button but I managed to find out that swipe left shows Delete like iOS (poor UI design for macOS which should be fixed).

Some voices like Agnes of English(United States) is swipable and shows Delete. So I could delete it.

But Siri Voice 2 of English(Australia) is not swipable and I couldn't delete this and several other voices.

Why are these voices are not swipable and how can I delete these them?

Am using an earlier MacOS version at the moment, so you could likely check same in your MacOS Sequoia:

ie: In System Settings > Accessibility > System Voice (in the left side bar> System Voice (again in right side of window), you can use the up/down arrows to see which are the system voices available.

Eg: In MacOS Ventura:

Clicking "Manage Voices" at bottom right shows a list of voices with an icon to indicate whether a particular voice can be downloaded (cloud) or deleted (Trash bin) Eg:

Thank you for your opinion.

Thanks for finding me a similar query and the way to delete Siri voices in iOS.

But as I mentioned in my query, I already knew how to delete Siri voices in macOS.

The problem is, I can't delete some of downloaded voices.

In iOS, I can delete 'Agnes' and 'English(Australia) Siri Voice 2'.

In macOS, I can delete 'Agnes' but I can't delete 'English(Australia) Siri Voice 2' (and some other voices).

I'm currently using 'English(US) Siri Voice 4', so the system doesn't need to keep those additional voices.

iOS and macOS are similar but not the same.

That's why I'm asking for help here in mac community.

Thank you for sharing the detailed manual and for letting me know that it's unlikely Apple will read posts here. I might just send feedback through the link you shared.

However, as I mentioned twice (in both my original post and comment), I already know how to delete downloaded voices. Let me clarify that I already understand the process—and that it's slightly different in macOS Sequoia.

For example, you can download "Agnes" and swipe left to see the delete button.

But for "English (Australia) Siri Voice 2", I can't swipe left. It's downloaded—as you can see—but it's not swipable. That’s the issue I’m having.

At this point, what I’d really like to know is just about "English (Australia) Siri Voice 2", not general instructions. Specifically:

  • Is it downloaded by default? (I’m still not sure.)
  • And are you able to delete it on your end?

What I want to find out is whether this exact same issue occurs for other macOS Sequoia users as well. Knowing that would help me figure out if this issue is specific to my system, and it'd make it easier for me to send more helpful feedback to Apple.

Re: Deleting downloaded Spoken Content voices

Wondering if this earlier discussion thread can still be helpful to you.

It contains replies by a Community Specialist to a similar query

See: Where do I go to delete additional Siri v… - Apple Community

Eg: says " ... It would appear that there is no longer an option to manually remove Siri voices from the device storage. Siri voices generally do not take up a large amount of device storage that would impact your overall

storage negatively, and they store under the 'Other' category ..."

Also says: "You can remove enhanced-quality voices and voices you have downloaded.

Here's how:

Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver and tap Spoken Content. (NB: System Settings on Mac)

Tap Voice, then tap the voice that you want to remove.

Tap Edit.

Tap , then tap Delete. Or swipe left to delete."

It'd a lot of help if someone using macOS Sequoia could check whether 'English(Australia) Siri Voice 2' is downloaded by default(I'm currently unsure about its default status) and whether they're able to delete it.

And I don't fully trust that "the OS will automatically free up space"

cuz Photos app is still using 140 GB in my iPhone 11 Pro for years—even after I subscribed to iCloud storage.

Meanwhile, the same Photos app only takes up 22 GB on my iPhone 15 Pro.

From a UI/UX design perspective, I think, if users are allowed to download something,

they should also be allowed to delete it,

without needing to wait indefinitely for the system to decide if or when to clean it up.

Thank you kindly for your reply, and clarification. Seems (eg: from screenshot) that Siri Voice 2 was a default voice on my Mac, as I haven't downloaded any other Siri voices. Now that your discussion is underway, it does provide more opportunity for input from others. We'll see.
