Why is Safari not a viable option for many websites?

This has been going on for a long time now for me. When I visit many sites, Safari is just unresponsive to my clicks. I visit ESPN daily, and clicking on the drop-downs is unresponsive, preventing me from navigating to what I want to view. There are also sites where I need to enter information, only to find the site unresponsive to my entries. I thought maybe it's because I mainly use private view mode, but it does the same thing in the normal mode. It's so bad that I have now had to stop using Safari and move to Chrome for my browsing. I used to brag to non-Apple users about how good Safari was, but I can no longer endorse it based on my experiences with it of late. I am using my Macbook Air M3 using Sequoia 15.3.2 (24D81).
