J5Create JUP43130 No Longer Charges Multiple Devices

I’ve been using the J5Create JUP43130 since December 2024, and it has worked perfectly—until this past week.

When I plug in two devices simultaneously (an iPad M2 and an iPhone 16 Pro Max), the battery icon on both devices starts blinking (green and white) and neither charges properly.

Similarly, when I connect my MacBook Air, it runs on the adapter but does not actually charge the battery.

In short, the charger no longer seems able to deliver sufficient power when more than one device is connected.

For troubleshooting, I tested the exact same setup with another J5Create wall charger (model: JUP3565CV) that we own, and both devices charged steadily without any issues.

I also contacted J5Create support and received a brand-new replacement unit for the JUP43130—but unfortunately, the issue persists with the new one as well.

At this point, I’m unsure what’s causing the problem.

Possible factors I’m considering:

  1. A recent software update on one or more of my Apple devices
  2. A coincidental issue with both J5Create 43130 units (unlikely, but not impossible)
  3. A change in device battery settings
  4. Apple implementing new limitations on wattage or third-party charging specifications

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue or found a fix?

Would love any insights!

Hmm, I can only think of a couple things that may be happening here. The first one is something you already touched on:

A Recent Apple Firmware Update

  • It’s possible that a recent firmware or iOS/iPadOS/macOS update changed how your Apple devices negotiate USB Power Delivery (PD). Apple is known to tighten power delivery behavior with software updates, particularly in how it identifies and accepts third-party power sources. If the JUP43130 isn’t responding exactly to spec during power negotiation, your devices might be rejecting the charge or going into a sort of fallback/protective mode, hence the blinking icons. Your other J5Create charger might handle PD negotiation more cleanly or be on a different firmware version.

Power Budget & Port Logic Changes

  • If I understood the specs on this device, it is supposed to intelligently distribute up to 130W across all ports. If something in the load-balancing logic or internal controller isn’t working correctly—or if Apple has become more sensitive to voltage fluctuations under multi-device load—it could cause the devices to cut off charging. Even a subtle change in how the charger ramps up/down current could be triggering this, especially with high-draw devices like an M2 iPad and an iPhone 16 Pro Max charging simultaneously.

With that said, here are some recommendations that you can try (if you haven't already):

  • Try a staggered plug-in – Instead of connecting both devices at once, plug one in, let it negotiate and start charging, then connect the second. Sometimes this gives the charger time to allocate power properly and avoids brownout-like conditions.
  • USB-C Cable Quality – I know you probably have good cables, but confirm they’re 100W+ rated. Lower-rated or slightly damaged cables can introduce resistance that messes with PD timing/negotiation.
  • Firmware Check on the Charger (if possible) – Some J5Create products have hidden or undocumented firmware updates. Reaching out to support again and asking explicitly about any firmware updates for USB-PD compatibility might be worth it.
  • Try a Mac-only test – Plug just your MacBook into the JUP43130 and observe if it ever actually charges the battery, or just powers the system. If it’s stuck at “Power Source: Adapter, Battery Not Charging,” that could be a PD profile mismatch issue.

Hi Tesserax,

Brilliant response!

Thank you so much for taking the time to break it down and ellaborate my concerns.

I appreciate your suggestions and I did some further test and came across this observation :

I noticed that both 100-watt ports successfully charge both a Android device (phone) and an iPhone without any issues.

However, when Two (2) Apple devices are connected to the 100-watt ports, the battery icon tends to blink.

Interestingly, when I connect one iPhone to the 20-watt port and another iPhone to the 100-watt port, charging occurs smoothly.

With this additional information, I can only assume that there could be a firmware update that's hindering the charging process....?
