How do I turn off type-related window boxes on my iMac?

my ten year old iMac suddenly started to open a window box and insert type related to what I've typed. Can't find a way to turn this off.

Can't close Safari Tab. IMAC Ventura 13.4 Suddenly the X on the left side of a Safari tab address has changed to a + In other words I can't close a tab I can only add it to my reading list. I don't use reading lists. I just want to manually close tabs when I have finished with that site. What happened? Can I fix it? Am I obliged to use Chrome instead? I can't add a screenshot because the + only appears when I hover over the address bar.
