How do I resolve 'Mail wants to sign using keychain password' error on Mac?

'I keep getting this message.

"Mail want to sign using key

"privatekey" in your keychain.

To allow this, enter the "login" keychain password."

I tried to enter my apple password and this did not work.

System keychain prompt when sending email. I have a certificate associated with one of my Mail accounts. When I send an email using this account, I am repeatedly prompted to enter my username and password. The dialogue box says "Mail wants to make changes. Enter an administrator's name and password to allow this. Mail wants to use the System keychain." This prompt occurs periodically while I am composing the email and exactly three times in succession after selecting send. I've dealt with this for years under many versions of MacOS, tried most of the the recommendations I could find online, and done several trouble calls with Apple support. There was a recent post with what seems like the same issue to which the accepted response was "remove the certificate or reinstall with the correct permissions." Removal is not an option for me and I'm not sure what would be needed to reinstall with the "correct" permissions. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Why does Mail ask for keychain password and will not send email without it Problem probably triggered by electing to use digital signature on DocuSign for a pdf document. For whatever reason Apple "Mail" program was stuck in a loop asking for keychain password for user and having only options of "Allow", "Deny", and "Allow Always." User password (and Apple password) did nothing and Mail application was rendered useless. Does anyone know why Mail asks for Keychain user password? The icon in upper right hand of email message showed seal (stamp) with a checkmark just to right of a locked lock icon. By selecting the seal icon it changes to an "x" I believe indicating the email is not encrypted, but still Mail was not working. Finally called Apple Support and a very accented voice led me through a couple options, the last one being to change my Mac user password through System Preferences/Users & Groups and unlocking and then selecting "Change Password". This solved the immediate problem but I still do not understand it.

Good evening,

For the login password, it is your Mac login password, not Apple ID.

But even after entering your password, and there are issues, I will comment another solution
