It is water and splash resistant. Chances are good that you won't have a problem. Avoid plugging in a charging cable until any water in the port has had a chance to dry. (tip, since I virtually never have a need to plug a cable into my phone between wireless charging, wireless CarPlay, and bluetooth headphones, I have a silicone plug in the USB-C port to avoid liquid or dust getting into the port.)
Most phones that get wet are just fine. You won't see that reported here, though as most people who are not having a problem don't generally find their way to a support forum to report that everything is working ok.
If you do have a problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store.
One thing NOT to do would be to put the phone in rice to try to draw the moisture out. This would result in tiny particles of rice expanding and clogging the phone’s ports, interfering with their operation and helping to trap the remaining water inside the phone.
Lay the iPhone upright with the port facing down so water can drain out. Power it off and do not charge it for 24-48 hours. Try turning it back on and see if it will function.
If it does, you were lucky. If it doesn't, water damage has already affected the iPhone and you will have to purchase a new one. Apple does not repair water damaged iPhone's and nor is it even repairable. Corrosion will be caused to the parts inside the iPhone.
You'll need to start accepting the fact that you will need a new phone.
If you have AppleCare+, the cost of replacing the phone will be significantly reduced.
