how to remove Mac_SwapperDemon from Sequoia OS

I have a couple of login items, which I want to remove as they are from unidentified developer. One is Mac_SwapperDemon and the other is PPPMonitord. I cannot see how to remove them from the login and extensions folder. I read somewhere to delete SwapperDemon in the Activity Monitor which I did but that file does not appear in the Library>launchagents where I was told to look. As for PPPMonitord, I have not tried anything. How do these things come to be where they are? Any help is massively welcome!

Thank you for your advice Jim, I ran EtreCheck which found this app and gave me the option to delete it. So I did, and now it is gone! That is a very clever little app! Thank you so much for your advice!

Good Job! EtreCheck was developed by a fellow contributor on these forums who is still very active helping users. Although he cannot recommend the app himself on these forums as it would violate the terms of use for this site, it is an excellent tool and comes in very handy.

Thank you DavosCat, that is very kind. The speed has not changed. I know I have a router problem (it is cutting out), and am working with the provider to sort that out, but curiously, my MacBook Air when plugged into the router directly shows a download speed or around 17Mbps whereas the Imac (this machine) via wifi shows only 3Mbps.

Thank you so much for looking at this Jim.

I have not removed Norton and do not intend to do so. I'm not sure what is showing this. Which Norton files are removed when using the App Store? I downloaded the files from the Norton website when I signed up the contract.

I use dropbox regularly.

Curiously the wifi speed is different in both the Imac (3Mbps) and the MacBook Air (14 Mbps) and both have Norton installed.

With regards to the router, it is now working fine, not showing any red lights. The wifi speed is still very low on this Imac. It may or may not be helpful to say that I have an Amplifi repeater throughout the house.

Thank you Jim ...

I would suggest posting the EtreCheck report using the Additional Text option when posting. Run a new test after you have removed those other files. You can see in the report that it contains no personal information. I suspect you have other third party processes running in the background and it is also useful to verify all Norton files have been removed.

Of course this will not solve a problem with your router and that will also need resolved.

'unidentified developer' do occur but searching for the Unknown corresponding application (s) is akin to searching for " a needle in a haystack " per se

Think you might be better off following the suggestion from @Mac Jim ID in above

Just post the Full Report as a reply

You should be following the app developer's instructions for uninstalling their apps. Sometimes the app itself has an "uninstall" option, while others may require downloading an uninstaller app from the developer's website, while others may have instructions for manually removing all of the app's files.

Well, this is a fairly new machine - about 7 months old, and the wifi speed is really low, so I looked at the login items and found these two items from undisclosed developers. I looked it up on the internet and found no good reason to have it there plus I figured that if a developer prefers to remain undisclosed, then it cannot be trusted. I have no idea how it got there, I have Norton running in the background, but am pleased it is gone.

Thank you for letting me know, Claudia. Much appreciated.

Is your computer functioning better now?

Do you need further advice with regard to slow WiFi connectivity?

The only thing I see that should be addressed are the Norton files. It may be the case that Norton is still in or Application folder. If this was downloaded from the App Store those files will be removed when the app is deleted, and if downloaded from the Norton website, it is usually best to run an uninstaller that is either built into the app or an uninstaller that may be available in the Norton folder. The Norton files are currently having an impact on your Network usage as well, but from your post, you have removed it or are planning on removing it. Not sure if this report was generated before you had removed Norton.

The issues with your router still needs to be addressed. The otherwise normal network use by Dropbox and Sonos is just going to have a larger effect on bandwidth like you see on this Mac with a slow internet connection compared to your other devices. Once you get the router issue resolved, these will have minimal impact on your network speed.

I assume you still use Dropbox which is fine, it is just if you no longer use it, there are additional files that can be removed that run on startup.

Hello again, Claudia. I won't expect you to move the location of your 24 inch iMac 😉 ......... but if you position your MacBook Air alongside your iMac and connect to your router wirelessly, what connection speed on the laptop are you registering?

FWIW, I have found this Netflix website quick and accurate for testing speed:- www.fast.com

Also, for test purposes, is it physically possible to connect your iMac to your router with an ethernet cable? If so, do you note a considerable improvement in speed?

Please let us know.
