How do I fix Safari not showing all my tabs on MacBook Air with macOS Sequoia 15.4?

I just updated my MacBook Air (15 inch, M2, 2023) to macOS Sequoia 15.4 (24E248). I have Safari 18.4 (20621.1.15.11.10) running on my system. After the update, some of the tabs aren't visible in the Safari window (see the screenshot below).

The ones visible on the left are pinned tabs, and the ones on the right are unpinned tabs. But I can see that there are unpinned tabs in the empty space when I hover the mouse pointer on them. Indeed, when I click on a tab in the empty space, I can then see the tab at the top (see the other screenshot below).

I have 71 tabs open at the moment. I tried quitting Safari and reopening it, but that didn't help. I could try restarting but since my system already rebooted after the software update, I don't see how that will help. Can you please help me make the tabs visible again?

Seems the more feedback Apple receives on an issue, the more info. Apple has on which models, and which OS versions are affected, and the more likely the issue will be addressed in a future update. All feedback is carefully read and logged:

Web-form for MacOS: Feedback - Safari - Apple

Web-form for iOS / iPadOS: Feedback - Safari - Apple

I'm seeing the same problem.

My observation is that this is a function of the number of tabs and the size of the window. With a larger display, I can get all the tabs to appear by making the window wider.

It's a particularly annoying bug, though, because I typically work with many tabs open concurrently.

@slaufma. I see, that’s interesting. Perhaps that’s why kerryfromhouston fixed it. I keep a lot of tabs open too as I mentioned in my post, so I really hope this will be fixed soon. There has been another update to macOS Sequoia 15.4.1 yesterday, but that didn’t help fix the problem.

mine was also disabled. but interestingly, when I clicked it on, then off again, all the tabs appeared.

but when I clicked on a tab, they disappeared again.

it's pretty obvious from this where the bug is occurring, so hopefully they'll get a programmer to chase this down fairly soon.

as I said, this bug is really annoying given my particular workflow.

Unfortunately, Sequoia 15.4.1 just landed but doesn't fix it.

Let's hope this doesn't take too long.

The compact layout really messes up my muscle memory / habits, especially because a bunch of stuff in the compact layout move around (where is your address bar, or even the pinned tabs)
