I am having problems with sudden rapid AirPods Max battery drain

I have my AirPods Max since October 2024, so 6 months. But since a few weeks the battery drains crazy fast. Even if I don't use them. I always put them in the original Smart Case and they are standing on my desk for a few days without being used.

My last check was:

Recharged to 100 % on Saturday night

Sunday, 7:30 a.m.: 88% percent left

Sunday, 7:00 p.m.: 70% percent left

Sunday, 8:30 p.m.: 68%

Today they measured the battery in the Apple Store and they say this drain is normal...?

The only advice I got was: leave it untouched in the case for 48 hours and see if it drains any further, because it only then goes into smart battery mode?

But I find this progression in 24 hours really insane. Especially because it wasn't like that before...

Solution:

  1. When you put the Max next to your iPhone and they are connected, you’ll see the max appear in your settings list. To me it was right on top, below my name and above flight mode.
  2. I clicked on it, and there I could turn off the max for showing up in ‘Find My’. So I have not turned of Find My in total. I can still use location sharing and see my other products in Find My.

Even after 10 hours there is still no battery drain :)

There was a firmware update for the AirPod Max I believe on March 31. I would suggest to see if you are able to confirm that each of you are using the same firmware version and if it happens to be a bug in the latest update, then proceed to contact Apple Support and also use the Feedback link. One of the options when sending Feedback is to report a bug. The more an issue is brought to Apple's attention, the more likely a solution will be provided sooner.

I have the lates firmware and it seems to be happening since this update. I also have the latest version of iOS and Osx.

I'll make a report, thanks for sharing.

I have been in contact with support for 2 times now. After the first contact they send me to the store. The store basically send me home because they tested the battery and nothing was wrong.

Now the support guy checked if there was more information about a bug since firmware, but he couldn't find anything. His advice:

  • forget the headphones at all your devises, connect it to 1 (for example iPhone) but not to the rest. See if it still drains. Yes: do it again, but don't connect to iPhone but to another device. To see if the problem is with one of the devices.

Atm it's only connected to my iPhone, and it drains like crazy. Already lost 9% in 8 hours, while it's laying in the case in my office.

Tomorrow I'll do the same proces, but only connect to my MacBook to see if there is a difference. Probably not :(

After only connecting the max to my MacBook yesterday, and not to my iPhone, there is no drain at all. After 20 hours they are still 100% So the problem seems to be between max and iPhone.

On advice of some of you I have now turned it off in Find My. This is what I did so far:

  1. When you put the Max next to your iPhone and they are connected, you’ll see the max appear in your settings list. To me it was right on top, below my name and above flight mode.
  2. I clicked on it, and there I could turn off the max for showing up in ‘Find My’. So ATM I have not turned of Find My in total. I can still use location sharing and see my other products in Find My.

Let’s see if this is enough, or if I have to turn Find My off completely… :)

What might I may be doing wrong. I thought I was followed the above but draining continues.

I went to settings.

Saw my APM right under my name/account.

Selected it.

Scrolled down to Find My Networked and turned it off.

Now 24 hours later down by more than 30%.

Should I have gone further and clicked Show in Find My then clicked Remove This Device?
