People recognition in photos

My photos app recognizes only two people out of the 3 in a photo and it doesn’t recognise the third. I just met them and I’m trying to add their name but it won’t let me. Is there another way for me to add them? When I tap on people and scroll down to Add a Person it doesn’t let me press the button.

You don't say what sort of device you're using-- is this on a Mac? or are you using iPad or iPhone?

On an iPhone or iPad, the best way to record the people in a picture is to use the Caption field to type in the names. I say the best way, because the facial id isn't kept with the pictures when you export them outside of Photos, but the caption field can be include in transfers. I use the facial IDs to help me with adding names to the caption.

On a Mac face names can be added manually.

But I also use the caption field. I also use names as keywords in Mac Photos.

I’m currently on the iPhone 15 pro running ios 18.4 . The pictures basically show that I’m in it as well as one of my friends but it doesn’t let me add the third guy that’s with us. I don’t know why it’s recognising just 2 people and not the other one. I even took a picture of just him to see if it allows me to add a person and it still doesn’t show.
