Airpods Pro 2 not working for calls on Apple Watch

Since last watchOS update my airpods Pro 2 have stopped working properly for calls when connected to my apple watch

• When answering a call on watch and use the airpods I can't hear anything, and the caller doesn't hear me either.
• If I switch the audio output to watch speaker, then I can hear the caller.
• Listening to music or podcasts via watch on the airpods works as expected.
• Call via Iphone using the same airpods works perfect as well.

Rebooting the apple watch solves the issue for a few minutes, but the issue happens again after a few calls more.

Unpairing, reseting, repairing, doesn't solve the issue.
